I Will
Just a short thought.
I’m reading through the Psalms at the moment - and loving it. Lingering longer than I have done in the past. And enjoying things strike me in a new way.
This morning I was in Psalm 101. Have a read if you like. It’s only 8 verses.
And if you do, read it a few times through. Anything strike you? Anything repeated? What do you sense is the Psalmist’s heart? What is he expressing?
The thing that struck me was this….
I will.
The repetition of those two words.
They occur at least 11 times.
That’s a lot in 8 verses.
What do those two words convey?
I think they convey intentionality. Deliberateness. Purpose. Commitment.
The Psalmist - David - expresses a commitment to a certain way of living.
I will. I will. I will. I will.
He’s serious.
I’m not sure we like to think like this. Often times in our Christian life we like to coast. To go with the flow and let life happen. To not spend a lot of time thinking about things.
But you know what? Growth happens…godliness happens…maturity happens…when we make purposeful, intentional decisions and commitments.
…to flee from something.
…to not tolerate something that isn’t helpful.
…to fight for something.
…to pursue something.
The life of a disciple is the life of I WILL.
Just thinking out loud.
